Jeremiah 31:31-34
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord, for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
Hebrews 8:6-8
“But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah”
WHAT IS COVENANT?
A covenant is a promise, an agreement or a testament between one person and another. And based on this teaching, a covenant is a promise, an agreement, or a testament between God and you if you are born again.
Dearly beloved before you go into this teaching, I encourage you to read my previous teachings of the past two weeks. On those teachings, we took a very deep look at the old covenant based on Exodus 19: 5-8. In that teaching, I did say based on the word of God that the old covenant was a conditional promise based on the obedience of man. We read all about what God will do if man obeys him, and we also read about what role man will play before God will fulfill his promise to man. Unlike the old covenant, the new covenant is an unconditional promise of GRACE which God will make with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah when the Lord Jesus finally sets up his kingdom here on earth and it might interest you to know that this prophetic promise was spoken into the future precisely for the aforementioned. This prophecy will be fulfilled to the Jewish people after: they have re-gathered to Israel according to Jeremiah 30:1-3, and also after a time of severe tribulation which the bible calls ‘the time of Jacob’s trouble’ according to Jeremiah 30:7. This new covenant is an inward spiritual change where the spirit of God’s word will be engraved upon mam’s heart; different from the covenant at Mount Sinai.
Dearly beloved, your place in the new covenant right now is that you’re partially enjoying the blessings of that prophetic promise, however the complete fulfillment will be realized when Israel becomes fully restored and redeemed as a nation. It might interest you to know Child of God that Christ brought us into this new covenant by his death and the shedding of his blood. Luke 22:20 declares “In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenan in my blood, which is poured out for you.” Based on the blood of Jesus Christ, the most holy place of the heavenly tabernacle opened up giving you and I access to God with no limitations. WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST? You may ask! The purpose of the blood of Jesus Christ was to appease the wrath of God by paying in full the price of redemption. In comparison, as the high priest used the blood of goats and bulls to purify the most holy place as portrayed in the previous teaching so also did Christ the everlasting high priest used his own blood to purify the most holy place (holy of holies). Dearly beloved, it might interest you to know that though heaven is a holy place yet Satan had access to it to accuse you and I. Job 1:6 declares “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among the.” Based on the wrath of God towards man, it was only the blood of Jesus that could stand as surety of this new and better covenant.
WHAT MAKES THE NEW COVENANT A BETTER COVENANT? According to Hebrews 8:6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.” If Christ has not offered his blood by death on the cross, and I would still be tied down by the rudiments of the old covenant and the constant sacrifice of goats, bulls, heifers, turtle-doves for cleansing, purifying, and for the atonement of sin. For your sake and mine, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ presented the value of his own blood and not the blood of animals according to Leviticus 16:18-19 “And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the Lord, and xmake an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about. And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.” Dearly beloved, this new covenant gives you a perfect conscience instead of a constant reminder of sin based on Leviticus 16:34 “And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.” However, the new covenant makes you and I the earthly dwelling place of God; Galatians 2:20 says I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Dearly beloved, does Christ truly lives in you? Are you fully convinced that you have a place in the new covenant or you are still not sure? Ponder on these questions and make a total surrender and re-commitment to God as I shall continue the part 2 of this teaching next week.
UNTIL THEN MAY HIS JOY FILL YOUR HEART...
