Jeremiah 10:23

“O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps”

Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death”

Dearly beloved, today God wants us to look into decision making and the choices that come from them. We all make decisions every day; some decisions are minor like what clothes to wear and what food to eat for diner. However, other choices we make stem from major decisions which requires much thought and prayer. The choice we make today can impact our lives tomorrow either in a positive way or in a negative way. The man who does not have the spirit of God or the immature believer will go wherever and do whatever they want while the spiritually mature believer who employs the services of the Holy Spirit will go where God wants him to go and do what God wants him to do, this attitude is called 'doing the will of God in obedience'. If I may ask dearly beloved, what decision are you pondering over right now? Is it career choice? Life partner? Business? Relocation? starting a family? What to do about your troubled marriage? Whatever it is, you need to make a choice about right now. Don’t forget that your decisions today will impact you family if you have one, therefore it is very important that you involve God in it.

Before making any decision in life, always ask yourself this question, is God in this? Is this decision biblical? If you are married ask yourself this; will my spouse be in full support of my decision, will this decision help my ministry or spiritual gift? Is my decision legal or ethical? Do I have the peace of Christ? Finally ask yourself if you are will to let God instruct you. The word of God says in Proverbs 32:8 that he God “will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shall go; I will guide thee with my eyes” The Holy Spirit within us makes it possible for us to understand God’s revealed will and also to apply such will where applicable in life. Child of God, let me quickly share with you four key steps in making Godly decision.

1) Pray and seek God’s face: Always apply Philippians 4:6 in every decision you want to make; “be careful for nothing (that is don’t worry about anything) but in everything (whether looking for a life partner, career choice, or as little as naming a child) by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known unto God” supposing you make a mistake before bringing it to God in prayers, not to worry just pray for redirection because Jeremiah 10:23 says “O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” and Proverbs 16:9 says “a man’s heart deviseth his ways; but the Lord directed his steps.” When you allow God to direct and redirect you steps be rest assured that decision making will be easy and you’ll always end up with the right choice. No matter the plans you have and no matter the choices before you, know that only the counsel of God shall always stand for you to succeed.

2) Don’t make a decision based on what you know: Genesis 13:10-11 says “and Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere; before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.” This was a very crucial time in both the lives of Abram and Lot the nephew; a decision needed to be made based on the conflict between their herdsmen and like any other man without the leading of the holy spirit Lot made a decision on which way to go based on what his human eyes saw and also what he knew to be true and like but as events begin to unfold, Lot soon discover that the land he had chosen was not as buoyant as he thought and to make matter worse the men of that land were wicked. Proverbs 3:5-6 says “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto you own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.”

3) Seek Godly Counsel: before taking any decision that will possibly impact your life and that of others, seek Godly counsel from your spiritual leaders or authorities like your pastor. Proverbs 19:20 says “Hear counsel, and receive instruction that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.” Just so you know child of God, no man is an island and you can never be an expert in all things, that is why you must get Godly counsel from those that are more matured spiritually than you are in faith. The bible says in proverbs 15:22 that ‘without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established.

4) Witness of peace and confirmation: There is always that one moment in life when you don’t feel good concerning a decision that has been made whether the decision was made by you or not. However, when you make a decision based on the leading of the Holy Spirit, there is always that peace that comes from within. Dearly beloved, know that when the decision you take is from God, there is always a confirmation that follows. Isaiah 26:3 say that "God will keep him in perfect peace whose heart is stayed on thee because he truth in him." And 2 Corinthians 13:1 also says that where there is two or three witness a matter shall be established, in other words there will be a word of confirmation from another spirit filled person to compliment what you have in mind. I encourage you today dear covenant friend to leave your decision in the hand of the Almighty God and you will never regret you did.

MAY HIS JOY FILL YOUR HEART...
