Something about the Name Jesus

Philippians 2:9-11

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Dearly beloved, what is a name? A name is a word or an identity which a person is known by, for example: Angela, Lydia, Joseph, your name and my name, Victory. A name is also a word or phrase which a person is designated by for instance; The Queen of England, The Duke of Scotland, and Judge Judy. A name could also be a mere designation rather than a fact, example: A Christian in name only, a husband/father in name only or a wife in name only. A name could also be an abusive descriptive epithet like name calling, example idiot, good for nothing etc. A name is also reputable, example: a bad name or a good name. Now, the name Jesus has been designated to be used to do the following: (1) To appeal to God, John 16:23 says “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you” and the same John chapter 14:13 says “whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the son” (2) the name Jesus is used as the final authority, and looking at our text, Philippians 2:9-11 it says “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” And Ephesians chapter 1 says that God through the working of his mighty power after raising Jesus from the dead set him above every other things and chapter 1:21 says that “God has set Jesus far above all principality and power, and might, and dominion and every name that is named in this world to come”

Therefore dearly beloved, whatever is not pleasant in your life is just a name which the name of Jesus is higher than, and whether it be poverty, barrenness, sickness/disease, sin, unhappy life, affliction, pain, abortive plans, lack of breakthrough, spiritual bondage, oppression, financial instability etc. know this child of God, that the name Jesus is higher than both the above names and any other name because it has the highest and final authority. The name Jesus brings salvation, healing, deliverance, protection, breakthrough, promotion, and wholeness. Child of God, know this for sure that, it is God that has the final say concerning your life; Romans 8:33 says “who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.” And Lamentation 3:37 says “who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not? And Job 12:14 says “behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.” Therefore, when the enemy makes a decision concerning your life, not to worry the name Jesus will completely utter that plan; because of the name of Jesus all evil counsel of the enemy concerning your life shall become foolishness and God shall do his pleasure concerning you in Jesus name.

However, there is a ‘But’ and that but is, unless you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and have a relationship with him, his name will do nothing in your life why because Proverbs 28:9 says “he that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.” In other words when your ways do not please God or when sin becomes dominant you will not be able to exercise authority over your enemy with the name Jesus but when your ways pleases the Lord, he will make even your enemies to be at peace with you because you trust in the name of Jesus with no double standard such as seeking help from where there is no help or trusting in other powers; There is nothing the name of Jesus cannot accomplish in your life if you walk in the integrity of that name. All you need is a relationship with him born out of love for his gift of life. The Jesus is the only security you need and that security is yours today if only your absolute trust is in him. Proverbs 18:10 says “the name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” Dearly beloved, your life is well secured and balance through the name of Jesus and only that name will give you perpetual victory.
