Joshua 2:12-13
"Therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token, and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.”
Dearly beloved, thank God for another awesome week such as this and as you know, the Lord has been so gracious and faithful unto us all. Just so you know, this week's devotional is a follow up on last week’s devotional titled ‘Step Into Your Destiny’ as directed by the Lord and it is my earnest prayer that your change will come after this devotional. How can one create a change you may ask? And what exactly is a change? A change is to cause or to come into being, as something unique; and when you say unique it becomes limited in occurrence to a given situation. (Unusual, not typical and having no likes). A change can also mean to do something creative, to arrange or bring about; to have an instant insight to something especially in the face of an opportunity. In Joshua chapter 2:1-11 records that Joshua took siege of Jericho and two spies were sent out to view the land and these men stayed in the house of Rehab a known harlot in town but funny enough when the king heard about it and sent to inquire from Rehab, she lied to the king thereby saving the stranger’s lives. However she quickly took advantage of the situation by asking from the spies a demand that will cause a change in her destiny and that of those around her.
Just so you know child of God, Rehab saw a great opportunity and she made a good use of it. She acted fast by comparing what she will gain from whoever she chooses to take sides with. Though a heathen yet she believed in the God of the Israelites so much so that she was willing to risk everything knowing that ‘if this God is for you know one can be against you’ (Romans 8:31). Rehab confession of faith in the God of Jacob in Joshua 2:9 brought about her change in destiny; and this was her confession “and she said unto the men, I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.” Child of God, Rehab had the choice to had gone for the immediate gain but she saw something bigger than the present and so she decided to launch out and go for it; she saw her future with the Israelites, she painted and pictured a future which she desired to feature in and she known that it was only a drastic faith that will bring it to pass. In Mark 11:24 Jesus speaking to his disciples says “therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye received them, and ye shall have them.” In other words a change has to begin with a desire, followed by prayers, championed by faith and the end product is manifestation. Rehab wanted a true token, something that will cause a change in destiny not just for her but for her generation unborn. She knew this was her only chance to turn a new leaf and she wasn’t going to ruin it therefore she made an undeniable request in Joshua 2:12-13 “Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token, and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death. ” in other words Rehab was saying ‘I know I want a change yet the change I want is not instant satisfaction, money or gratuity but what I want is total transformation; a total replacement from the person I am now to a whole new and different person; not just me but my entire household, I want to be transformed from death to life, failure to success, poverty to wealth.'
The question dearly beloved is; did Rehab desired change come to bear? The answer is yes! In Joshua 6:23-25, the bible records that the spies whom Rehab saved were commanded by Joshua to go bring Rehab and her family to safety before the city was set on fire and Rehab and her entire family then lived with the Israelites after that event. So what was the big change? The big change was that this Canaanite harlot became part of the lineage of David through which Jesus Chris the king was born. If you read the genealogy in Matthew 1:1-17 you will know that Rehab indeed created her change by making the best use of the opportunity that presented itself before her. In the aforementioned genealogy, this harlot Rehab eventually married an Israelite man called Salmon and they both gave birth to Boaz, Boaz then married Ruth and they both gave birth to Obed, Obed then became the father of Jesse who became the father of David through whose lineage Jesus came. You see child of God, Rehab acted in faith when the atmosphere for her change presented itself and you too can do the same today. It doesn’t matter where you are right now or how much opportunity you’ve missed in the past, begin to paint and picture the future you want to feature in and begin to speak faith however faith does not walk alone it walks with works; James 2:17 says “in the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” God is counting on you dearly beloved to make good use of every opportunity that presents itself for there lies your change in destiny.
MAY HIS JOY FILL YOUR HEART...
