Galatians 3:13

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree.”

Proverbs 26:2

“As a bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse curseless shall not come”

As already discussed in last week’s devotion, a curse can be an incantation, evil pronouncements, and evil intentions spoken into a charm to bring doom to another person. A curse as already established can become generational in nature. Beginning from where we left off last week, in Genesis 49 shortly before Jacob’s death he gathered all his sons together to tell them what the future holds for them however not all of them received Jacob’s blessings. In verses 1-7, Reuben lost his right as the first born son followed by a curse of stagnation ‘unstable as water thou shalt not excel... ’ Simeon and Levi received a curse for their anger ‘cursed be the anger’ and as a results they were displaced and scattered all over Israel with no inherited land to call theirs ‘I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.’ Other than evil words and pronouncements curses can be effectual through a witch doctor, voodoo, black magic, spell casting, magic, sorcerer, occult practices, evil prophets, and the use of inanimate objects to cause doom on a targeted person.

Can a child of God be under a curse? And if yes how can a curse be broken? The answer is both yes and no. Dearly beloved, a child of God who has faith in Christ Jesus and is living in absolute obedience to God’s word cannot be under the effect of a curse. Proverbs 26:2 says “ as a bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come” in other words a word of curse wanders about in vain when the targeted person do not deserve such a curse by virtue of covenant obedience. Another bible version puts it as ‘curse undeserved shall not come’ God will wade off any iota of curse intended for a believer even before it’s uttered if such believer remains in God’s covenant. Romans 8:2 “For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” Dearly beloved, before coming to the knowledge of God through faith in Christ Jesus you walked under the law of sin and death which in itself is a curse because such a person is alienated from God but all of that changes the moment you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and continue to walk in absolute obedience in that newness of life, and by this God has assured us that ‘those he has blessed non can curse. However, there is an exception to the above scriptures in that Ecclesiastic 10:8 declare that “He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.” An hedge according to the bible dearly beloved is God’s own spiritual fence, partition or wall of protection over his children as described in Job 1:8 Satan replies “does Job fear God for nothing?…..Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? And also the bible says in Psalm 125:2 that ‘as the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever’ and Zachariah 2:5 say ‘For I saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory round about her.’ Dearly beloved, as indicated from the above scriptures God’s divine protection is evident upon a child of God as long as such child of God is in the center of God’s will by obedience BUT when such child of God begins to live in disobedience to covenant and kingdom principles, God’s protection is removed and such a person becomes vulnerable and susceptible to the curse of the enemy. There are so many instances in the bible where sin resulted in the hand of God being withdrawn from his children. Deuteronomy 28: 1-end talks about the ‘blessings of obedience and the curse of disobediences’.

Dearly beloved, whether a curse is as a result of sin or evil manipulation a child of God can be set free where there is true repentance. Ways to avert curses? Live a righteous life and walk in obedience: Exodus 20:6, Malachi 4:6, Romans 8, Romans 12:1-2 and Ephesians 4:27, all admonishes the believer not to give room to Satan. Dearly beloved, when you live a spirit filled life with total submission to the will of the Father, get fresh revelations from his word every day and stay close to him via prayers I assure you that no curse will come near your dwellings neither will it have room to walk against you; You can live a curse free life in Christ!

MAY HIS JOY FILL YOUR HEART….
